Full description

Lying between the busy Old Time Square and the scenic Vltava River, Prague Josefov is one of the best preserved Jewish Ghettos in Europe. On this tour, you will explore the most important Jewish heritage sites to discover the turbulent past of the local Jewish community. Get to know the Jewish Quarter and enjoy a relaxing boat cruise along the UNESCO-listed historic center of Prague.

The 3-hours option includes a 2-hours walking tour and a 1-hour cruise, with a meeting point in front of the World of Franz Kafka. You will walk through the historic Old Town Square, featuring important landmarks such as the 600-years-old Astronomical Clock and a former residence of the Jewish Kafka family at the House of Last Minute. You will also see a playful Franz Kafka Monument in front of the stunning Spanish Synagogue.

Walking through the authentic Jewish Town, you will see the 13th century Gothic Old-New Synagogue, the legendary home of the Golem of Prague and a beautiful Jewish Town Hall built in 1586 to host meetings and events of the Jewish community. Another important point of interest will be the historic Maisel Synagogue, where Hitler horrifically wanted to create the ‘museum of the extinct race’.

Further down you will walk past the Old Jewish Cemetery to the Pinkas Synagogue, which houses the Memorial of Holocaust Victims of Bohemia and Moravia with 77,297 names of the concentration camp victims listed on the walls. By the Vltava River you will see magnificent Rudolfinum, a location of the events from a famous Czech novella entitled ‘Mendelssohn is on the Roof’.

The boat cruise will take you on an exciting voyage along the Vltava River with the amazing views of the ‘city of a hundred spires’. You will see the Jewish Quarter from a new perspective and learn more about Prague’s history from a special audio guide. Among some of the amazing highlights you will see from a boat will be the iconic Charles Bridge, the National Theatre, and the Prague Castle with St Vitus Cathedral standing proudly on top of the hill.

Choose the 4-hours option to visit the Spanish Synagogue during the guided walking tour of Josefov. You will admire a unique Moorish-style building with arabesques, gilt and polychrome motifs and step inside to marvel at the 19th century interior with a showpiece Torah ark. The synagogue is part of the Jewish Museum complex and hosts a permanent exhibition of Jewish history from the 18th century Enlightenment period to the present.
