Full description

On this exclusive tour you will travel from Frankfurt to Eisenach, in the state of Thuringia. This place is steeped in history, culture and traditions dating back to the Middle Ages. You will familiarize yourself with the legacy of J.S. Bach and Martin Luther. Discover a treasure trove of German history and folklore.

We offer two options for this tour. You can choose between travelling in a private car transport and meeting with a Local Guide in Eisenach, or opt for a fully guided tour with a Private Guide on board. Whichever option you choose, you will receive the best service with a tour program tailored to your preferences.

The walking tour will start at the Eisenach market square, where you will see the late Baroque city palace – Stadtschloss, the Town Hall and St George’s Fountain. There is also an impressive medieval St George’s Church with a deep connection to Luther and Bach.

You will walk through Luther Street featuring gorgeous timber houses and see the Luther House, where the seminal figure in the Reformation likely lived during his stay in the city. Further down you will see Bach Monument, right next to the Bach House, which is a museum dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach. Inside, you will find over 300 original exhibits such as antique furniture, Bach paintings, Bach’s skull and bust, his autograph, and a collection of baroque musical instruments.

Still, the top attraction of this tour will be visiting the Wartburg Castle. Suited on top of a hill, this almost 1000 years old castle complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to your knowledgeable Private Guide, you will discover the fascinating history of this place. You will see the reconstructed room of St Elizabeth of Hungary as well as a room where Luther took refuge and translated the New Testament into German. There is also a museum with unique medieval art pieces, such as paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder
