Full description

Stuttgart, like many of Germany’s major cities, was ravaged throughout World War II. The reconstruction of the bombed buildings has created an amazing city architecture, where modernity is intertwined with history. We offer you an unique tour along the trail of war traces left in the city. Choose our private tour with a 5-Stars Guide who adjusts tempo and cares about your informative trip and the best experience.

Choose 2-hours option and see an 18th-century Baroque New Palace. Located on the Schlossplatz, it is one of the last large city palaces in Southern Germany. In World War II the New Palace was almost completely destroyed, leaving only the facade standing. The reconstruction began in 1958 and today it is used by the government ministries. Visit the Stiftskirche, a church built in the 12th century. It was strongly damaged by the bombing raids and reconstructed in the 1950s. Its interior was rebuilt in a modern style. Admire the Old Castle, which dates back to the 10th century. An air raid caused devastating damage in 1944 and two thirds of the arcade courtyard were destroyed. Visit Johanneskirche, built in the Gothic Revival style from 1864 to 1876. After its destruction during World War II, the main church building was reconstructed, but some of its elements were rebuilt in a modern style. Its tower was intentionally left incomplete to become a war memorial.

During the 4-hours option stroll through the Old Town World War II sites as the New Palace, the Old Castle, Johanneskirche and Stiftskirche. Complete this war-themed tour with a visit to the Hotel Silber Museum. It tells the story of the Gestapo forces in a poignant way. The building itself has a rich history too. It was operated as a hotel until 1919 and used by the national secret police agency of Adolf Hitler’s regime.

Expand your journey to 6-hours and discover even more history By choosing this option you will be not only able to see the sites of the Old Town, but you will also visit the Hotel Silber Museum and Birkenkopf. The museum’s exhibition shows the history of Württemberg’s Political Police and its transition into the Gestapo. After visiting the museum, go by public transport and take a little hike to the top of the Birkenkopf. It is a part of an artificial hill built from the rubble from World War II, which offers a stunning view of the city. Experience the real history and get a great portion of knowledge from your local 5-Stars Guide.
